This thatched roof is part of an old German farmhouse. Such roofs blend into their environment. The vegetation used for the roof and the natural vegetation of the trees blurs the boundary between nature and culture. In the wake of sustainable building thatched roofs are witnessing a revival.

Dit rieten dak is onderdeel van een oude Duitse boerderij. Zulke daken gaan op in hun omgeving. De vegetatie die gebruikt is voor het dak en de natuurlijke begroeiing van de bomen vervagen de grens tussen natuur en cultuur. Als gevolg van duurzaam bouwen beleven rieten daken een opleving.
